The questions you’ll ask before letting your kid on this. Answered.
Zibbo is built so kids can run their own stall, with a guardian as the gate. Your kid does the work. You approve the listing and the money. If any answer below sounds vague, that’s a bug. Tell us.
Can strangers see my child on Zibbo?
No. There is no face, no name, no DOB, no address, no school, no age, and no location of any child anywhere on Zibbo. A stranger sees: a photo of an item, a price, a postcode district (like GU2), and a handle your kid picked (like ScooterKid42). That’s it.
What data do you actually hold about my family?
Your email, your full postcode (for Stripe KYC and local delivery eligibility), a handle your kid picked, listing photos of items (never people), and your Stripe payout details (held by Stripe, not us). We don’t hold real names of children, DOBs, school names, or photos of faces. We don’t sell data. We don’t run third party trackers.
Can my kid chat with a buyer?
No. Zibbo has no kid to kid messaging and no kid to adult stranger messaging. The only conversation surface is the offer thread between two guardians about a specific item, using pre-written prompts. Your kid sees that there’s been an offer on their listing. They don’t write replies.
What if a buyer is dodgy?
Three safety nets. First, you approve every sale. If something feels off, you decline and nothing happens. Second, Stripe holds the money for 72 hours after payment (or 48 hours after tracked delivery); you can freeze it with a one-tap dispute. Third, Stripe’s own 14-day chargeback window sits behind our process, so you have recourse via your bank even if our flow concludes.
What if the item arrives broken?
Tap “Raise an issue”. The money is frozen immediately, you upload up to four photos plus a short note, and a threaded chat opens between you, the seller’s guardian, and (if needed) Zibbo’s team. You can agree a partial refund via a slider or request a full refund. Zibbo commits to an initial response within 48 hours.
What stops my kid from spending the money on something silly?
Kids never see raw money in Zibbo. They see their balance tick up when a sale completes, with a small celebration. Withdrawing money out of Stripe and into the real world is a guardian only action. You can choose to run Zibbo as a “house savings jar” and let your kid spend their earnings off platform, however you already run pocket money.
My kid is 9. Isn’t this too young?
Zibbo is designed so the kid’s job is photographing and describing their own stuff, things most 7 year olds can do well. The adult things (price checks, addresses, money, disputes) are in your app, not theirs. There’s no social pressure, no comments, no leaderboards. It’s a stall your kid runs, not a social app.
How do you stop a child’s face ending up in a listing photo?
Two layers. The kid’s app runs on-device face detection at upload. Any face triggers a rejection with a nudge to retake on a plain background. Then at approval time, you see the photo in the guardian app and can reject it yourself. If one ever slips past both layers and goes live, we take it down within hours of a report and the account gets a strike.
Is this a social network in disguise?
No. We don’t have: follows, friends, social feeds, direct messages, comments, reactions, likes, public profiles, or chat rooms. We have: a browse screen full of items for sale, offers, and guardian level Circles that change which of those items surface first. No chat surface, no social graph. If any of this changes, it’ll be announced loudly and on this page.
What happens if I want to leave?
One tap in the guardian app. Your account, your kid’s listings, your email and every listing photo are deleted within 30 days. Stripe keeps completed transaction records for seven years because UK tax law requires it, not a Zibbo choice. Nothing else remains.
Is Zibbo free for the kid?
Yes. There’s no subscription and no listing fee. The only cost is Zibbo’s platform fee on completed sales (5% under £20, 8% at £20 and over), and that comes out of the sale so the buyer sees a clean price.
Which countries does Zibbo work in?
UK only at launch. UK postcodes, UK bank accounts for guardians, UK mainland postage (Northern Ireland, Highlands and Islands are supported, with a warning about carrier surcharges). No international shipping, no international listings.
Will there be ads?
No. Zibbo has no ads, no sponsored listings, no tracking pixels, no third party analytics. The platform fee on completed sales is the whole business model.
